South Korea's maritime police have arrested 24 Chinese sailors on charges of violently resisting crackdown on their illegal fishing in the West (Yellow) Sea, officials said Dec. 7.

The incident occurred in waters off Incheon, west of Seoul, on Nov. 27, when those sailors aboard three boats resorted to violence, wielding steel pipes at South Korean maritime police officers, the Incheon Coast Guard officials said.

The authorities seized the 30-ton Chinese fishing boats, they said.

Of 32 sailors aboard the boats, 24 were arrested, according to the officials.
