Chinese internet giant Tencent will publish a mobile version of "Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds", a battle-royal style PC game developed by a South Korean company. The PC game is currently the world's second most played with over 20 million copies sold this year.

Tencent said this week that it is working with South Korea's Bluehole Studio to develop a mobile version of the popular game. "Playerunknown’s Battlegrounds", also known as "PUBG’s Battlegrounds", was released earlier this year as an incomplete early-access game but received unexpected attention for its unique gameplay.

According to data released by Steam, the most popular online game platform, the number of daily active PUBG gamers has skyrocketed to 2.6 million in November from 67,846  in March.

In its statement, Tencent promised to provide a similar gaming experience to mobile users just as it is played on a PC. The company said the game would be launched in China first but no date was given. Tencent has acquired a distribution right to publish "PUBG’s Battlegrounds" in China.

"PUBG’s Battlegrounds" has been more successful than games produced by any other domestic rivals such as Netmarble and Nexon. Millions of users watch video contents related to the game uploaded onto YouTube and Twitch, a live-streaming video platform specialized in video games.
