SEOUL -- LS Cable & System, a major cable manufacturer based in Seoul, has clinched a contract worth $40 million to supply extra-high voltage cables which will be used to improve India's power infrastructure.

It was the largest contract ever won by the Indian branch of LS C&S, which has a factory in Haryana. The company produces power and telecom cables and systems, as well as integrated modules and other related industrial materials.

LS C&S said Thursday that the deal with Andhra Pradesh Power Generation Corp. accounts for about 20 percent of the annual Indian market for extra-high voltage cables.

The company said the deal would help LS C&S expand its business in India where demands for power cables are growing due to a government project to improve power infrastructures.

On Monday, LS C&S signed a deal with Indonesia's AG Group to set up a power cable joint venture as part of efforts to complete a production network in Southeast Asia. LS C&S has factories in China, Malaysia, Vietnam and India.
