SEOUL -- Popular K-pop girl band Red Velvet has successfully driven its Japanese debut album to the No.2 spot in Japan's Oricon daily chart.

Oricon said in a statement on Thursday that "#Cookie Jar", the five-member group's mini-album released on July 4, stood second in its daily albums chart. Red Velvet sold 15,099 copies of its new album on its release day in Japan.

Red Velvet has released several hits including "Russian Roulette" and "Red Flavor" and performed in a rare concert by South Korean musicians in Pyongyang in April.
