SEOUL -- Hyundai Mobis, the parts-making wing of South Korea's Hyundai auto group, will team up with Tata Elxsi, an Indian design company, to use 3-D mobile game software for the development of a simulated self-driving environment.

Hyundai Mobis said its research center in India and Tata Elxsi would use high-definition video game images to simulate various conditions for autonomous driving. Tata Elxsi provides design and technology services for product engineering and solutions.

Hyundai Mobis said 3-D images are effective in improving the performance and efficiency of self-driving cameras and sensors. With deep learning technology, it plans to develop an automatic video recognition and categorization system in the first half of next year.

As a crucial partner in the development of Hyundai Motor's self-driving technology, the parts maker is testing autonomous vehicles in South Korea and other countries. Hyundai has promised to unveil mobility services that would combine future technologies such as autonomous navigation and artificial intelligence.
