SEOUL -- Samsung Electro-Mechanics, an electronic component company, will make a new investment in its base in China to expand the production of ceramic capacitors for autonomous and electric vehicles.

Ceramic capacitors, especially multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs), are the most produced and used capacitors in electronic equipment. MLCCs for automotive electronics are used for autonomous driving and electric cars.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics said Thursday that its board approved a new investment of 573 billion won ($512 million) in its base in Tianjin, China, to produce MLCCs for automotive electronics.

Samsung Electro-Mechanics, a subsidiary of the Samsung Group, produces chip parts, printed circuit boards, camera modules, network modules, and semiconductor substrates. The company has factories in China, the Philippines and Vietnam.
