SEOUL -- Some 100 Chinese internet celebrities, known as Wang Hong, will gather at a big duty-free store run by South Korea's Lotte retail group this weekend for a 20-hour marathon telecast through SNS to test Korean cosmetics.

The event is to begin at 5 am (2000 GMT) on Saturday at a duty-free shop in Lotte's World Tower complex in southern Seoul. Lotte said Wang Hong would test 43 Korean cosmetics brands in booths and broadcast them on their own SNS channels. The Lotte duty-free store has premium shops and a specialized zone for Korean cosmetics.

Wang hong is someone who has lots of followers, but unlike bloggers, they do not need to be seen as a content expert. Instead, they have a strong influencer due to their looks or their sense of humor. Their followers like approachable fashion and beauty and want to have fun online and get inspiration on how to look great.

Lotte has invested an enormous amount of money in China. But it became the prime target of China's retaliatory onslaught for allowing US troops to set up a missile shield in its golf course in 2016. Lotte is scaling down its department store business in China following the withdrawal of its troubled hypermarket chain hit by a prolonged consumer boycott.
