SEOUL -- South Korean actor Park Hae-jin will spearhead a campaign to win back the minds of Chinese consumers by appearing in a dramatized three-piece commercial film to be shown through a major Chinese online shopping platform.

Park has been chosen as a model for EastSkin's LED near-infrared mask, which is based on a technology originated from NASA. The good-light mask absorbs near-infrared rays to the skin's dermal layer and expels skin waste and promotes nutrition.

JuMei.com, a Chinese online shopping platform which focuses on makeup and skin-care brands, will put the first piece of EastSkin's commercial film on December 20, according to Park's agency, Mountain Movement.

Park gained fame in early 2016 by taking the main role in "Cheese in the Trap", a cable TV drama which led phenomenal K-pop drama hype over many Asian countries. In May 2016, a postage stamp series featuring him was released in China, but his presence in Asia's largest market was curtailed due to a diplomatic dispute over a U.S. missile shield deployed in South Korea.

South Korea's entertainment and other industries suffered a business setback due to China's informal trade and economic retaliation. Beijing imposed a travel ban on Chinese group tours to South Korea and restricted the distribution of Hallyu (K-pop wave). In October last year, the two countries agreed to normalize relations, but progress has been slow.
