SEOUL -- At CES 2019, the annual consumer electronics show in Las Vegas in January, South Korea's LG Electronics will showcase a new wearable robot which can be used in the industrial field to support the waist strength of workers.

When the user bends the waist over a certain angle, the robot senses it and goes into a ready state to assists the force applied to the waist when he or she unfurls the waist. LG said that it can reduce the burden on the waist in repeated work.

It will be LG's second CLOi SuitBot model. In August, the company unveiled the first model capable of supporting human legs and reinforcing their muscle strength. Like the first product, the new wearable robot is designed to wear and take off with ease by using a special cradle, which improves the unnatural and inconvenient fit of other products.

LG has expanded its investment in South Korean robot-related startups to develop new robot solutions using artificial intelligence. LG nurtures its robot business as one of its new growth engines. The company has made a strategic investment in Bossa Nova Robotics, a San Francisco-based startup that creates retail robots. LG CLOi SuitBot was designed in collaboration with SG ROBOTICS, a Seoul-based developer of wearable robots.
