Google joins hands with LGU+ to produce VR platform for K-pop

LAS VEGAS -- LG U+ teamed up with Google to invest in the development of virtual reality (VR) content VR content that would be distributed through YouTube and platforms run by the South Korean mobile carrier. Google is interested in the distribution of K-pop in the era of 5G mobile communication.

Under an agreement reached at the annual Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, the two companies will work to develop VR content that would show the day-to-day life of K-pop stars such as individual schedules, performances and backstage tours.

LG U+'s future and converged division head Lee Sang-min said that the first batch of VR content could come in the first half of this year. LG Uplus is responsible for planning and production, while Google will have distribution rights through YouTube outside South Korea.

LGU+ hopes to set up a global VR hub for the distribution of movies, images of beautiful travel sites, performances, interactive games and web cartoons.
