SEOUL -- At iconic landmarks in New York and other big cities, Samsung Electronics is evoking curiosity from passers-by with peculiar Korean-language advertising to tease an "exciting future" of its flagship smartphone line that would be unveiled this month.

Samsung did not say so, but the out-of-home billboard campaign sparked speculation that the world's largest smartphone maker would unveil its new flagship smartphone Galaxy S10 as well as a foldable phone in San Francisco on February 20.

The foldable phone was shown to selected guests at last month's Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. SK Telecom CEO Park Jung-ho acclaimed Samsung's foldable smartphone as a wonderful device suitable for media and content in the era of 5G mobile communication. Samsung has said its foldable smartphone would fold inward with its 7.4-inch screen being reduced to 4.6-inch.

Samsung said Wednesday that the billboard campaign has been launched at New York's Time Square, Milan's Piazza del Duomo, Madrid's Callao Square, Moscow's Hydroproject Building and Singapore's The Heeren, following an initial launch in early January in Paris’s Place de la Concorde.

Korean letters displayed in a dynamic and bold way translate to "The future unfolds," the company said in a statement.

According to leaked information released by online IT experts, Galaxy S10 is likely to come with a 6.1-inch display with a punch-hole style front-facing camera. The camera was designed to avoid the "notch" design which has an island on the top edge to house a speaker, selfie cameras and sensors.
