KT, South Korea's largest telecom company, released the world's first 5G-based smartphone karaoke application which allows up to four users to simultaneously sing along.

The company said in a statement on Thursday that it released "Sing Stealer", a 5G-based smartphone Noraebang (karaoke or singing room) app, featuring new audio technologies. Users can invite other users to sing together or record a song using the app. Sing Stealer also evaluates singing skills with real-time vocal analyzing technology.

"By combining our 5G communication technology and super-low latency vocal sound technology, we have actualized the world's first 5G-based multi-live Noraebang," KT said, adding that the previous 4G environment had limitations in data speed when multiple users sing simultaneously.

Since the mid-1990s, Noraebang has been a popular place to hang out for South Koreans. There are some 34,000 Noraebangs as of 2018 and about 2,000 are umanned, according to data from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety.
