SEOUL -- Two security companies affiliated with SK Telecom will be merged to provide convergence security services at home and abroad. The initial target in global markets is China and Southeast Asia. The mobile carrier pledged services tailored to the needs of individuals, homes and enterprises as well as artificial intelligence-based integrated security monitoring and control systems.

The boards of SK Infosec, a digital security subsidiary that provides information security consulting services, and Life and Security Holdings (LSH), the parent company of ADT Caps, approved their merger within this year. SK Telecom (SKT) said that the integration of SK Infosec and ADT Caps would be completed within the first quarter of 2021.

ADT Caps is South Korea's second-largest physical security company with 700,000 subscribers. In November 2019, SK Infosec partnered with VinCSS, the network security service unit of Vietnam's Vingroup, to expand their clout in information security, which is a key element in establishing anything that's hooked onto the internet.

"Through the merger of SK Infosec and ADT Caps, we will lead the future convergence security industry by developing innovative security services and platforms, and accelerate our growth as a global ICT company," SKT CEO Park Jung-ho said in a statement on November 27. SKT promised to nurture the merged entity into South Korea's top convergence security company by leveraging advanced physical and information security technologies.

The merged entity will introduce a whole new level of convergence security services by combining 5G and artificial intelligence, SKT said, adding individual customers can enjoy a service that safeguards personal information by preventing hacking of surveillance cameras or Wi-Fi networks, along with a dispatch security service to protect them against intruders.

Enterprise customers would be allowed to build an access control system applied with IoT sensors, intelligent surveillance cameras and biometrics and prevent safety accidents through a converged security system that protects IT systems against potential physical and cyber attacks.
